Himachal Wins Skoch e-Governance Award for Revenue and Finance

The government of Himachal Pradesh won first prize in the nationwide finance and revenue categories in the SKOCH State of Governance 2021 report.

The award was received by the State Department of Tax and Excise at a ceremony held at the India Habitat Center in New Delhi as part of the India Governance Forum on Saturday evening.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was presented with the award by State Department of Tax and Excise Commissioner Yunus and senior officers from Shimla department today.

Thakur congratulated the officers and officials of the department for the achievement and praised the efforts of the department and hoped that the department will also continue to excel in the future.

The CM said the state was chosen for the honors due to several initiatives taken by the state government by implementing the HP-VAT-IT project in the state and introducing about 31 online services , reductions and streamlining of the business-related compliance burden for taxpayers and other stakeholders.

Despite the covid restrictions, the department collected around Rs 8,500 crore in the 2021-22 financial year compared to collections of around Rs 7,000 crore in the last financial year, or more than 20%. This substantial increase in revenue is due to proactive measures taken by the department, providing ICT-enabled hardware and software to field authorities, regularly imparting knowledge, training field officers and stakeholders for better compliance in a time limit and in a transparent manner.

The department also won the SKOCH award for implementing the excise e-governance project leaving other states behind, he added.
